This program is for children ages 3.6 yrs & up. Children are required to enroll in
all five days if they are in their last year of preschool. This program also offers a
focus on Kindergarten readiness while learning and mastering the Spanish
language.
Our afternoon programs Los Koalas and Koalitas are true immersions; this means that the children will be spoken
to only in Spanish while in class. Studies have shown that it's during this critical
age that preschool children are able to absorb a second language with
ease. Mastering the language will depend on the type of learner your child is and
his/her exposure to the language. There are two main types of language learners:
simultaneous and sequential.
A simultaneous learner is a child who has exposure to both languages at
home. A child who has been cared for by someone who speaks the languages
since he/she was born and is spoken to consistently will most likely be this type of
learner. This child can most likely decode and switch from one language to the
other without having to "translate" or put forth additional mental effort.
A sequential learner is a child who has had very little or no exposure to the
second language. This child will learn his/her primary language and master it first,
and then will make the necessary adaptations to accommodate a second
vocabulary as well as the syntax (grammar) of the new language. This child will
usually take a little longer to be able to produce the second language because
he/she is processing one language first and then the second one. However, if
exposed at an early age he/she will be able to master it and produce it the same
as a simultaneous learner.
Children participating in the Spanish Immersion Program for the entire duration of Preschool perform well and are great candidates for our local Spanish Immersion Elementary Schools.
Whether pursuing a Spanish Immersion program or attending a regular Elementary School (private or public) Green Beginning students graduate having all the necessary skills to be successful and thrive in any Kindergarten program.
Children enrolled in the morning as Pea Pods will continue their day and participate in the Koalas extending their day until 3:00 p.m. A M-F enrollment is mandatory for Pea Pods who are graduating from preschool.
Children can participate in the afternoon without having to add the morning class and attend MWF or M-F from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
